New reports this week

4/23 2022Z (1622 local Wednesday afternoon): The pilot of a Be55 received “serious” injuries, and the Baron “substantial” damage, when it “crashed in a wooded area…for unknown reasons” near Point Pleasant, West Virginia. N591R (TE-248) was a 1966 C55.

(“Fuel starvation” [more shortly]; “Serious injuries”; “Airplane destroyed” [also substantiated shortly]—the Flight Safety Foundation’s Aviation Safety Network reports the Baron was on a local flight from nearby Gallipolis, Ohio when it “crashed due to fuel starvation.” A local news report reports the pilot was “able to call for help” and was found “walking through the woods” by first responders and was then airlifted to a hospital. Photos in the report suggest the airplane will be totaled. An Emergency Management deputy is quoted:

Hopefully the NTSB will make the sequence of events clearer in its investigation and reports.

4/24 0045Z (1745 local Wednesday evening 4/23): The pilot of a Be35 was performing “touch and goes” at Wenatchee, Washington, when pilot “mistakenly grabbed [the] gear lever instead of [the] flap handle and [the] gear retracted” on the runway. The Bonanza “sustained [a] prop[eller] strike and gear damage.” The solo pilot escaped injury and the damage meets the definition of “minor.” N9673Y (D-7094) is a 1962 P35.

(“Inadvertent gear retraction on the ground/touch and go”—all the usual advisories against touch and goes in retractable gear airplanes apply).
